Design Weirdness

Two weeks away from the next issue of KMC. The Design Issue. We're quite proud of it, but at the same time, realize we're just scratching the surface when it comes to the whole notion of design. One of the feature stories looks at design in nature and the human relationship to this grand story that's been played out over incredibly long periods of time. While researching the piece I came across this photo. It's striking. I'm not sure if it happened by chance or purpose. Regardless, it makes you think. What is our role in the epoch tale of this world? Are we mere destructors? Or are we part of a natural system that's playing out according to plan? We prefer to view ourselves as either stewards or a cancer. Those philosophies are imbedded in the very semantics of our language. This image seems to challenge all of that. The beauty and rebirth that often hides under destruction.
